of Canada and the provinces.
Languages
Our oral language courses are offered principally in
English, French, Spanish, Portuguese and
German. Other Western and Oriental languages: Mandarin,
Cantonese, Korean, Italian, and Japanese. Other languages
on request.
Levels
Our instruction is divided into six levels, from beginner
to expert.
Levels 1 to 3: Beginner to intermediate - goal:
threshold
Level 4: Advanced intermediate - goal: competence
Levels 5 and 6: Advanced - goal: functional
bilingualism
Stages and follow-up
Stage one
In stage one, we conduct an evaluation of the candidates
and their needs. In doing so, BLI employs:
- A placement test
- A personal interview
- An orientation questionnaire
Stage two
In stage two, we propose a program to the training supervisor
and discuss with him/her the composition of the groups
on the basis of the evaluations of the candidates and
the objectives sought. A language course schedule is agreed on.
Stage three
Delivery of course, follow-up, questionnaires and
reports.
Methods
BLI uses a number of methods and methodologies, depending
on the level and the needs of our students. We employ
a communicative and functional approach.
Our methods are flexible. We customize our courses in
terms of vocabulary and situations. We use a variety of
techniques in order to sustain student interest.
Sessions
Extensive sessions
Availability
Throughout the year for all languages. In our various
centres, in Montreal, Quebec City
and Toronto, or in other
suitable locations anywhere in Canada.
Intensity
For courses of this type, we recommend 2 classes per
week with a minimum of 1½ hours per class. Other
schedules are possible, subject to discussion.
Levels
All levels, from beginner to expert. Starting level
is evaluated through the placement test. Groups are formed
on the basis of these evaluations.
Schedule
Day or evening up to six days a week, at the request
of the participants. BLI is very flexible and can begin
courses on any date you choose. Flexible schedules for
private courses.
Duration
Generally, the duration of a course is determined
by the starting skills and objectives of the participants.
The company may choose a block of hours in advance, or
it may prefer an "open contract." In the latter
case, we require a month's notice prior to the termination
of the course.
Location
There are three possibilities:
- in the workplace
- on the premises of BLI
- at any other suitable location
Semi-intensive and intensive sessions
Availability
Throughout the year for all languages. In our various
centres, in Montreal, Quebec City and Toronto, or in other
suitable locations anywhere in Canada.
Intensity
- Semi-intensive courses involve 16 to 29 hours a week
over 5 or 6 days. These half-days enable candidates
to reconcile work and study.
- Intensive courses involve 30 to 60 hours a week over
5 or 6 days. The employee studies full-time.
Levels
- Semi-intensive: for this type of course, we recommend
that the candidate already have a basic knowledge of
the target language.
- Intensive: For this type of course, we recommend that
the candidate already have attained the intermediate
level.
Duration
We recommend a minimum of one week at a time. Students
often find it easier to set aside the occasional week
than to follow an extensive language course. We can also arrange
weekend sessions.
Location
Semi-intensive and intensive courses can take place:
- in the workplace
- on the premises of BLI
- at any suitable location
