Questions about general immersion and immersion for
business people
When do the courses begin?
There are no fixed dates. Language immersion courses can begin any Monday
of the year (except in the case of statutory holidays),
and students can join a group at their level.
What is the average age of students?
25 years. The minimum age is 18. Many of our students
are business people or retirees who want to learn a second
language.
If I learn French in Quebec, will I be understood
in France and other French-speaking countries?
Our courses teach international French. Same vocabulary,
same grammar as in France. Occasionally, usage differs
between Quebec and France. We are careful to note such
cases and advise our students.
Where are the host families located?
Our language schools are all located downtown. Therefore, while
some of our host families live within walking distance,
others live further away-generally, a trip of 10 to 35
minutes by public transit.
Who are the host families?
- Married couples with or without children;
- Women living alone or with a teenaged child (boy or
girl);
- Men living alone or with a teenaged child (boy or
girl);
- We have personal knowledge of all our host families.
Selection criteria: private room, excellent breakfast
and dinner, family atmosphere, exclusive use of target
language, quality of language, respectability.
If I sign up for a group course, can I decide, once
I have arrived, to also take hours of private instruction?
Yes, you can always add supplementary instruction in
private language courses. We will bill you for the number of hours
you request.
Can you describe a typical course?
We use the communicative method. 25% of the course is
grammar and 75% involves conversation. Role-playing, simulations,
videos, songs, etc.
Are you recognized in Canada?
Yes, we were founded in 1976 and are accredited by the
Canadian and Quebec governments. We are members of the Canadian Association of
Private Language Schools (CAPLS).
Do I need a visa to study in Canada? If so, how do
I get one?
Please refer to the section of the Government
of Canada website on student visitor permits and the
Government
of Quebec website for questions regarding visas.
You do not require
a Quebec Certificate of Acceptance or a Canadian study visa in order
to study in Montreal or Quebec City for stays of less
than 6 months. For stays of 6 months or more, you will
need a Canadian study visa and a CAQ "Certificat
d'acceptation du Quebec".
